چکیده
Pendry in his paper [Phys. Rev. Lett., 85, 3966 (2000)] put forward an idea for a lens made of a lossless metamaterial slab with 1 n = − , that may provide focusing with resolution beyond the conventional limit. In his analysis, the evanescent wave inside such a lossless double-negative (DNG) slab is “growing”, and thus it “compensates” the decaying exponential outside of it, providing the sub-wavelength lensing properties of this system. Here, we examine this debated issue of “growing exponential” from an equivalent circuit viewpoint by analyzing a set of distributed-circuit elements representing evanescent wave interaction with a lossless slab of DNG medium. Our analysis shows that, under certain conditions, the current in series elements and the voltage at the element nodes may attain the dominant increasing due to the suitable resonance of the lossless circuit, providing an alternative physical explanation for “growing exponential” in Pendry’s lens and similar subwavelength imaging systems.

Copyright may be transferred without notice, after which this version may no longer be accessible. 2 Abstract A large number of radio resource management algorithms rely on accurate measurements of the signal to interference ratio (SIR). We propose a simple, fast SIR estimator for narrow-band M-PSK modulated signals (M > 2). T...
متن کامل. R T ] 1 8 A pr 2 00 2 On the topology of components of some Springer fibers and their relation to Kazhdan - Lusztig theory
We describe the irreducible components of Springer fibers for hook and two-row nilpotent elements of gl n (C) as iterated bundles of flag manifolds and Grassmannians. We then relate the topology (in particular, the intersection homology Poincaré polynomials) of the intersections of these components with the inner products of the Kazhdan-Lusztig basis elements of irreducible representations of t...
متن کاملMethod of Reconstructing a Moving Pulse
We present a method of analyzing a set of N time signals fi(t) that consist of local measurements of the same physical observable taken at N sequential locations Zi along the length of an experimental device. The result is an algorithm for reconstructing an approximation F (z, t) of the field f(z, t) in the inaccessible regions between the points of measurement. We also explore the conditions n...
متن کاملHuman-Machine Diversity in the Use of Computerised Advisory Systems: A Case Study
Computer-based advisory systems form with their users composite, human-machine systems. Redundancy and diversity between the human and the machine are often important for the dependability of such systems. We describe a case study on assessing failure probabilities for the analysis of X-ray films for detecting cancer, performed by a person assisted by a computerbased tool. Differently from most...
